The city of Surat recently lit up with the premiere of Jalebi Rocks—a bold and offbeat Gujarati film that sensitively explores the journey of menopause. In alignment with the film’s powerful theme, this year’s Vama Wonder Women Awards, presented as the Vama Jalebi Rocks Awards, focused on honoring women over 50 who continue to inspire with their strength, passion, and purpose. 

Graced by the film’s talented cast and crew, including director Chinmay Purohit and actors Vandana Pathak and Manav Gohil, the gala brought together the creative soul of the film and the inspiring energy of our local heroes. 

The awards honored:

1. Mrs. Vira Karanjia, still shining on stage with Parsi dramas at the age of 83

2. Mrs. Kanak Patel, who conquered the Everest Base Camp at 73

3. Mrs. Yamini Vyas, a literary and stage icon thriving despite Parkinsonism

4. Dr. Nila Mehta, a gynecologist turned marathoner with over 15 marathons post age 50

5. Mrs. Mittal Patel, founder of “M Clothing,” empowering 50+ women after starting as a COVID mask-maker

Together, these women prove that while age is just a number, courage is everything.
